Oil drilling falls into two categories, onshore and offshore drilling. While the location of the oil field is the biggest difference between the two, they also vary in cost, profits, and length of time for drilling and the process of refining the oil. 

Onshore Drilling
Onshore drilling refers to the classic oil drilling methods used on land. It is an advanced form aimed to make as much profit as possible. Onshore drilling creates a hole in the earth, deep enough to reach oil deposits. About 70% of the world’s oil production results from onshore drilling.

Before drilling begins, oil companies set up a structure around the drilling area to maintain stability. Other equipment like pumps, oil storage tanks, and pipelines to transfer the oil are also arranged.
